Safe At Home victim protection

The Minnesota Secretary of State's Office collaborated with local victim service providers to create the Safe at Home address confidentiality program. Modeled after similar programs in 20 other states, Safe at Home provides a substitute address for Minnesota residents who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking Safe at Homeor otherwise fear for their safety.

When establishing electrical service, utilities such as Dakota Electric will need your actual address to set up service. However, if you indicate that you are a Safe at Home participant, utilities must make accommodations to keep your physical address confidential. After service is established, all correspondence with the utility will be done through your Safe at Home substitute address.

If you enter the Safe at Home program after you have already established electric service, you must contact the utility company to inform them of your new mailing address and tell them you are a Safe at Home participant.
