Increasing power costs impact residential and off-peak rates

Resource and Tax Adjustment
Increasing power costs will be reflected on members' bills as a change in the Resource and Tax Adjustment (RTA) in 2008, a result of higher costs from our wholesale power supplier, Great River Energy. For residential members, the RTA will be a charge of $.0122 per kilowatt hour (kWh), beginning in January.

This change results in an increase of approximately nine percent for residential members. The exact RTA charge will vary by rate class and commercial and industrial accounts are encouraged to contact their account representative to discuss your individual situation.

The RTA is a mechanism for Dakota Electric to adjust prices according to wholesale power cost fluctuations, property and real estate tax changes and changes in conservation spending, compared to the tariffed rate. The RTA is typically adjusted once per year. If you have questions about the RTA change, please call 651-463-6243.

Off-Peak Power Cost Adjustment
In 2008, the price members pay for off-peak electricity will also increase. This rate change is reflected in the off-peak credit on your bill. Both Rate 51 and 52 water heater members will experience an average increase of less than $2 per month. This estimate is based on average annual usage and will vary depending on your actual usage. Despite the increases, off-peak rates still remain a great cost-saver for members when compared to general service rates.
