Read your load control receiver

More than 40,000 members participate in Energy Wise® off-peak programs to save energy and money. These members receive a reduced rate or a credit for allowing Dakota Electric to temporarily interrupt power to certain appliances during times of high electric demand.

To control off-peak power interruptions, Dakota Electric uses load control receivers; small gray boxes, like the one below, usually located near your electric meter or central air conditioner.

Most receivers have five lights. The first three red lights are each designated for different loads and glow only when Dakota Electric interrupts loads or cycles air conditioners.

When appliances other than electric water heaters, air conditioners or whole-home electric heating products are interrupted, the first red light glows. The second red light indicates electric water heater interruptions and the third light glows during air conditioner and electric heat interruptions.

The fourth light is either amber or green and normally glows continuously indicating the load control receiver is getting Dakota Electric's signal.

The blinking report light is the fifth load control receiver light, and is usually red or clear and indicates there is power to the load control receiver.

If you have any questions about your load control receiver or Dakota Electric's off-peak programs, contact our Energy Experts® at 651-463-6243.
