Dakota Future

Dakota Future is an economic development initiative focused on leadership, vision, workforce and global competitiveness, formed as an outcome of the 2003 Dakota County Economic Summit by the Dakota Workforce Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization. Our purpose is to support the creation and maintenance of a world-class social and economic environment in Dakota County. We intend to market Dakota County as a national location for business development and as an economic growth center for the metropolitan area and the state. In our first year of operation, Dakota Future has made great progress as demonstrated by this list of accomplishments.

Organizational

  • Assembled an excellent board of directors with a balance of business, government and education representatives
  • Recruited members that will provide ongoing financial support Programmatic
  • Received recognition as Minnesota's 1st E-Commerce Ready County
  • Sponsored a Technology Celebration with seminar, trade show and reception
  • Continued our China Initiative with another successful trade mission and new sister city relationships
  • Conducted research and developed strategy alternatives for increasing economic relationships with Ireland
  • Facilitated a Dakota Transportation Forum at Inver Hills Community College
  • Organized an Arts and Economic Development Seminar at Dakota County Technical College

In 2005, Dakota Future will focus its efforts on:

  • Facilitating the 2005 Dakota Economic Summit
  • Hosting our inaugural meetings of the Dakota Futurists, a network of Dakota County's top 100 business leaders
  • Broadening our membership base
  • Upgrading our Web site, including the launch of Dakota Bizpathways, our entrepreneurial development tool
  • Launching our Ireland Trade Initiative
  • Developing a menu of business services in partnership with area workforce, education and economic development organizations
