If you receive Energy Assistance, you are eligible for the Cold Weather Rule. Call Dakota Electric Association at 651-463-6199 or 1-800-874-3409 to sign up.

The Minnesota Cold Weather Rule
Some members find it hard to pay their utility bills in the winter. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission set up the Cold Weather Rule to protect residential members from being shut off if they cannot pay their bills in full. This protection lasts from October 15 to April 15.

  • Complete this form and send it, along with your proof of income, in the enclosed envelope to Dakota Electric.
  • Call Dakota Electric within seven days to set up a payment plan.
