Dakota Electric Hybrids

In an effort to use environmentally-friendly technologies in daily operations, Dakota Electric added vehicles with hybrid technology to our fleet in 2007.

Escape HybridsHow the hybrids work

Hybrids use both an electric motor and a gasoline engine for power. The electric motor provides power for stop-and-go driving, while the gasoline engine is used for highway driving.

  • Electric motor powers vehicles up to 25 miles per hour
  • Regenerative braking technology charges the batteries when driver applies brakes
  • Vehicle makes no noise at stoplights, unless the battery is charging

Gas mileage
The three 2008 Ford Escape Hybrids purchased in 2007 get 34 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway. In-town gas mileage is 70 percent better than the standard Escape's gas mileage.
