Power Line Safety DemonstrationFifth and sixth grade students can learn about power line safety from a former power line specialist. During the demonstration, children learn how to be safe and avoid contact with power lines or items that may be in contact with power lines. "Neon Deon" and "Lectric Liz" are glass characters filled with neon gas that glows when they come in contact with miniature power lines used in the demonstration. Deon and Liz allow the students to see the path that electricity travels through the body, which is important in learning about how electricity can injure a person. The demonstration is a fun and interesting way to teach children about the dangers of downed power lines. Demonstrations are available to any group such as construction company personnel, 4H, Scouts and schools. Demonstrations can be brought to your site or held at Dakota Electric and combined with a tour of our facilities. Dakota Electric does approximately 45 such demonstrations every year for more than 2,000 children and adults in our service area. For information about having Dakota Electric Association do a demonstration at your function, call Kevin Fowler, 651-463-6290 or e-mail kfowler@dakotaelectric.com. |
