The heavy wet snow is causing outages for Dakota Electric Association and its members. The very wet snow is weighing down branches and causing them to contact power lines. As of 1:30 p.m., Dakota Electric has more than 5,000 members out of power. All available crews are out, but it could take well into the night to restore outages. However, outage restoration times depend upon how much snow continues to fall and ongoing weather conditions.

The public is reminded to stay away from downed power lines, and always assume they are live.

Members should call Dakota Electric’s outage line (651-463-6201) to report an outage or if they see downed power lines.

“Crews are out in force and they are working hard to restore power to everyone,” spokesperson Joe Miller said. “We thank our members for their patience during this severe weather event.”

A customer-owned, non-profit utility since 1937, Dakota Electric Association provides electricity to more than 100,000 members throughout Dakota County and portions of Goodhue, Rice and Scott counties. Dakota Electric, a Touchstone Energy Partner, serves its member/owners with integrity, accountability, innovation and commitment to community.
