Board of Directors and Leadership
A 12-person board of directors, consisting of and elected by members, governs the cooperative.
Dakota Electric’s board of directors act on behalf of the membership to guide operations and future planning for the cooperative. The board of directors has three members from each of its four districts. Directors serve three-year terms and are elected by you, our member-owners. Voting is done at large and all members have the opportunity to vote. For general inquiries about the board, please contact Melissa Cherney.
Monthly Board Meetings
Due to the coronavirus, board meetings are being held virtually until further notice. If a member wishes to "attend" a board meeting, they should contact Melissa Cherney ([email protected]) as early as possible to discuss the technology options available.
Meetings are typically held at 8:30 a.m., but the starting time may vary due to the agenda.

Annual Meeting and Elections
As a member-owned cooperative, annual meetings provide an opportunity for members to hear reports from officers and directors, receive a financial update, ask questions and learn the results of the director elections.
Survey & Ballot Systems, an independent firm, conducts the election voting and will mail a ballot to every Dakota Electric member two weeks prior to the annual meeting. Members can vote by mail or online. Voting instructions will be included with your ballot.
Any member in good standing may seek election for the Board of Directors in the district in which he/she resides. Members may also volunteer to serve on the Nominating Committee. The deadline for board candidates is typically early December, prior to the spring elections.
