$160,000 in unclaimed capital credits endowed to students

(FARMINGTON, MN) June 12, 2026 – Dakota Electric Association® awarded $160,000 in scholarships to more than 100 local students pursuing post-secondary education, continuing the cooperative’s long-standing investment in education.

In addition to the more than 100 talented high school students receiving scholarships, students enrolled at Inver Hills Community College and Dakota County Technical College will be granted scholarships this fall. Funding for the scholarships comes from unclaimed capital credits, which Dakota Electric directs toward education.

Since 1990, Dakota Electric has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to students throughout its service area, reinforcing the cooperative’s commitment to education and local communities.

“Supporting local students as they prepare for their future is one of the most rewarding things we do as a cooperative,” said Peggy Johnson, community relations director at Dakota Electric. “These scholarships reflect our commitment to education, community, and helping the next generation succeed.”
