What does it take to get food from the farm to your table? More electricity than you might think!

Dakota Electric recently partnered with the University of Minnesota Extension to bring an engaging, hands-on lesson to local classrooms, helping students discover the important role electricity plays throughout the food journey. From growing and harvesting crops to storing, transporting, and keeping food safe, electricity powers nearly every step of the process.

The program also gives teen 4-H youth leaders the opportunity to lead educational sessions and share their knowledge with younger students. Their enthusiasm and leadership have helped make each lesson interactive, memorable, and fun.

After visiting several classrooms, the program has already sparked curiosity and excitement among students, and it’s just getting started. Dakota Electric is grateful for the partnership with 4-H Youth Development and Extension Educator Jess Beissel in developing and delivering this valuable educational experience. The program will continue into the next school year, inspiring even more students to explore the connection between electricity and agriculture.
