(10:45 a.m., May 2, 2013) — Dakota Electric Association has experienced outages due to the wet heavy snowstorm that moved through late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The outages are mainly located in the eastern and southeastern part of the cooperative’s service territory. Locations affected are the areas near Hastings, Miesville, Red Wing, Welch, Castle Rock and surrounding areas.

Approximately 1,000 were out of power early this morning, but crews were able to get that number down to about 780 as of 10 a.m. Other than about one half-dozen poles down north of Cannon Falls, the outages appear to be mainly from the wet heavy snow causing trees to contact or fall through power lines. The scattered nature of the outages will make repairs slow, but all crews are out and working on restoration.

Dakota Electric reminds the public to stay away from downed power lines, and call the outage line to report safety hazards or power outages: 651-463-6201. If you have already called in to report your outage, you do not need to call in again at this time.
