UDPATE: Call in if still out of power
FARMINGTON, Minn. (7 p.m., July 18, 2015) — Dakota Electric Association crews continue to work on the remaining outages after last night’s storm. Less than 30 are still out of power and everyone should be on tonight. 

Member who are currently still out of power are urged to call Dakota Electric’s outage line again: 651-463-6201. This will assure that Dakota Electric knows about your outage, even if you called in earlier. 

After strong winds and lightning last night, outage calls started coming in about midnight. Crews encountered lots of trees down and damaged poles and wires after last night’s storms. The hardest hit areas were Burnsville, Lakeville and Eagan, but widespread damage caused scattered outages throughout the service territory. Dakota Electric thanks its members for their patience during this restoration process. 

Update: FARMINGTON, Minn. (3 p.m., July 18, 2015) — Dakota Electric is now down to about 200 out of power. Most of those are in Burnsville. 

 

 

Update: FARMINGTON, Minn. (11 a.m., July 18, 2015) — Dakota Electric is now down to about 400 out of power.  

FARMINGTON, Minn. (10 a.m., July 18, 2015) — The Twin Cities metro area, including Dakota County, was hit with severe storms last night, causing widespread damage including downed trees and power lines. Winds gust of 70 mph were reported in Lakeville by the National Weather Service. Dakota Electric Association started receiving outage reports around midnight, and crews were dispatched immediately and have been working through the night. 

The hardest hit areas include Bursnville, Lakeville and Eagan, although damage was widespread causing scattered outages throughout Dakota Electric’s service territory. 

Currently, Dakota Electric has approximately 700 people out of power. Due to the widespread nature of the damage, Dakota Electric is estimating that some individuals may not have power restored until later today. Those out of power should make preparations for being out a significant portion of the day.

Crews are working as quickly as they can to safely restore power to everyone affected by last night’s storms. If you have not called in your outage, please report it by calling 651-463-6201.
