FARMINGTON, Minn. (9:00 a.m., July 6, 2016) — Dakota Electric Association crews have been working hard all night restoring outages that have occurred after a severe storm moved through Minnesota. Dakota Electric experienced outages totaling more than 3,000 accounts scattered all across the service territory with the hardest hit area being the city of Burnsville. Crews have worked all night and as of 9 a.m., less than 50 are still out of power. Dakota Electric estimates that all power should be restored this morning, and crews will continue to work as quickly and safely as possible until all power is restored.

Most outages are due to lightning strikes and high winds knocking trees onto power lines. In some cases, significant tree clearing had to take place before power lines could be fixed and power restored.

Homeowners should know that if the electric mast on their house is damaged, they will need to have that repaired by an electrician before power can be restored.

Dakota Electric reminds the public to stay away from downed power lines, and call the outage line to report safety hazards or power outages: 651-463-6201. If you are still out of power, and haven’t called in recently, please call again. The public may view an outage map at www.dakotaelectric.com.
