It’s more than a program. It’s a commitment.
When members think about Dakota Electric, they often think about reliable power, responsive service and keeping the lights on. What makes all of that possible is a strong commitment to safety.
Safety isn’t a once-a-year training or a box to check. It’s a commitment that guides every decision we make, every day.
Whether crews are restoring power after a storm, replacing equipment, trimming trees near power lines or responding to an outage, safety is always the first priority. Before any job begins, employees take time to identify potential hazards, review procedures and ensure they have the proper equipment and training to perform the work safely.
That commitment extends across the entire cooperative. Field employees regularly participate in hands-on training and emergency response exercises, while office employees receive ongoing safety education and preparedness training. Dakota Electric also participates in the Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP), a national safety accreditation program that helps electric cooperatives continuously evaluate and improve their safety practices.
Safety is also about protecting the communities we serve. From maintaining our electric system to educating members about electrical hazards, Dakota Electric works to reduce risks and keep people safe around electricity.
While electricity powers our everyday lives, it should always be treated with respect. Members can help keep themselves and others safe by staying away from downed power lines, keeping a safe distance from electrical equipment and always calling 811 before starting any digging project.
At Dakota Electric, safety isn’t just part of the job. It’s part of who we are. By putting safety first, we help protect our employees, members and communities while continuing to deliver the reliable service you depend on.
