Have you noticed more load control lately? Did you know that the decision to control electric load comes from our power supplier, Great River Energy, and it can come due to numerous factors including power costs, availability of generation, transmission line accessibility and weather.

One of the reasons there has been more load control recently is due to the high cost of natural gas prices (more than double one year ago) used for power generation. Another factor is that wind generation has been greatly reduced due to less wind in the region.

Effective load control can mean a savings of millions of dollars in power costs annually for Dakota Electric and our members. We have been fortunate that over the years, Dakota Electric members have experienced very limited load control.

We know that more control may seem inconvenient at times, but please know that participating in load management provides savings for you. It also provides wholesale power savings ($17-18 million/year) to Dakota Electric, which helps us keep costs down, allowing us to provide the lowest rates possible.

Thank you to our members that currently participate in one or more of our load management programs. If you are interested in learning more about these programs or discussing enrollment, please give us a call (651-463-6243), and we will be happy to provide you with additional information.
