For longtime Dakota Electric members Lee and Kate, saving energy doesn’t have to mean constantly thinking about electricity use.
Putting programs to work
Lee has been a Dakota Electric member since 1986, and over the years, he and Kate have found simple ways to make their home more energy efficient while saving money.
For Lee, it started with wanting to be a good steward of the environment. He began looking for ways to reduce energy use while also lowering costs and found several Dakota Electric programs that fit.
Today, Lee and Kate participate in off-peak electric vehicle charging, Cycled Air Conditioning®, and Wellspring Renewable Energy®. They also recently switched to an electric water heater and enrolled in the off-peak program, finding another way to save on energy costs.
The biggest benefit? The programs don’t require much thought once they’re in place.
“It’s really set it and forget it,” Lee said. “Once you’re enrolled, you don’t have to think about it. You just know you’re saving energy and money.”
A clearer picture with MyDEA
While their programs work quietly in the background, My Dakota Electric Account, or MyDEA, gives Lee and Kate a closer look at their energy use.
Lee appreciates seeing their usage in near real time, including during off-peak hours. MyDEA also makes everyday tasks easier, from submitting rebates to accessing account information anytime.
“Things have become way more convenient,” Lee said.
Even with these online tools, Lee still values the personal service Dakota Electric provides. He describes employees as friendly and knowledgeable and especially appreciates the help of Dakota Electric’s Energy Experts®.
His advice for other members?
“Call the Energy Experts today. It’s worth having the conversation to learn more about the programs and your options.”
